The Simmons Beautyrest Hybrid

There has been a lot of misconceptions about the Simmons Beautyrest Hybrid. This mattress is the third level of the Beautyrest Recharge series which consists of the normal Beautyrest Recharge, Beautyrest Recharge World Class and the Beautyrest Recharge Hybrid. In this post, I am going to give you the difference between this mattress and the rest and some of the different mattresses you can look into.

What makes the Beautyrest Recharge Hybrid different?

If you look closely to the name of the mattress you will see the word hybrid. The meaning of Hybrid is a fusion between 2 or more different products. If you look at the normal Beautyrest Recharge and the Recharge World Class you will see an innerspring mattress with a thin layer of memory foam. The Hybrid will have a thicker layer of memory foam than the world class. You can say that the hybrid has 2 halves mainly the innerspring and memory foam.

The Hybrid is a 50:50 combination of memory foam and innerspring

The feeling of the Hybrid is also going to be unique. It will feel like you are sinking into the mattress because of the memory foam, but when you reach the innerspring section, you will have more support than a normal memory foam mattress. If you like the feeling of memory foam, but you hate the lack of support you can look into the Hybrid selection.

The hybrid also has Aircool memory foam which does not have that quick sand effect. Beneath the Aircool memory foam, there is another layer of aircool memory foam with Micro gel touch. The micro gel touch gives more durability and support.

The different types of Hybrid mattresses.

Type Firm

The type firm Hybrid mattress are a little bit harder than the plush. These are ideal for stomach and back sleepers because of the support. If you are a side sleeper, then I would not recommend this type for you.

Type Plush

The type plush is a little bit softer than the firm with a little bit less support. It is ideal for someone that is an all around sleeper that sleeps on their side, stomach and back. This type of sleeper does not have a favourite position.

Type Pillow Top

This mattress does not support pillow top.

The different levels of the Hybrid:

Now the hybrid has its entry level and all the way up to the high-end level.

Entry level

This mattresses have the lowest price tag and do not have some of the extra features as the more expensive models. The only features present is the Aircool memory foam and the Micro gel touch. The only exception is that the Liberty Point has Dynamic response memory foam which gives extra conformability with the inner coil set.

I got a Mesalla Hybrid Plush in Queen from Sears. At first they delivered the wrong bed. A Parkesburg Hybrid Firm. I had no choice so I had to sleep on it for a couple of weeks until Sears replaced it. The Mesalla Plush seems firmer than the Parkesburg Firm. Is there much variation when they assemble these mattresses? It is very unlike the one we laid on in the store! That one was a plush and we both found it softer but a good foundation, which is why we purchased it. The manufacturer says there is a 90 day break-in period and that we should give it 90 days. I looked into another mattress that Room-To-Go sells, the Beautyrest Recharge Hybrid Wynona Plush and that is the softest mattress I have ever felt. I am not sure about what direction I should go in. There is so much information and very little consistency. What do you suggest?

    Hi Kirk

I agree, but it is the first time I heard that you should give a mattress 90 days. Most mattresses take only 30 days to break in. How firm do you want your mattress to be and then we can take it from there. You can also tell me your dominant sleeping position such as side, stomach, back or mixed sleeper.

In April, we purchased the beauty rest 4500 luxury firm mattress. For the first two months it was great. Now my back is killing me. I’m not sure if this is common with these hybrids? We bought the firmest with the extra set of coils hoping for extra support. How can I confirm that what I purchased was what was delivered?

    Hi Lysa.

It is hard to say. Where did you buy the mattress?

The Mattress I am looking at is the Beautyrest Hybrid Recharge Messala II but I do not see that in your list. Do you know anything about it and what level it would be? I am looking for an extremely soft mattress?

    Viljoen August 2, 2016

    Hi Cathy

It looks like the Beautyrest Hybrid Recharge Messala is a plush. If you want an extremely soft mattress, then I would recommend that you take a look at the Simmons Beautyrest black series. Then look at the pillow top as they are the softest that you can find.

The hybrid series does not support pillow top.

We currently ordered a 2500 Luxury Firm – Beautyrest Recharge Hybrid but I cannot actually find which named version this is! Do you happen to know? Below is the description:
“Part of the Advanced Hybrid collection from Beautyrest, this mattress features Best of Both World’s construction. It combines the responsive support of Beautyrest individual pocketed coils, and Advanced AirCool Memory foam. The surface also has Micro Diamond AirCool memory foam to assist with managing your body temperature while you sleep. “

I think it might be the Valencia.

Macy’s sells the 5.0 hybrid which model does this correspond to?

Reply
    Viljoen June 6, 2016

What does the 5.0 mean? Is it the comfort rating? Simmons is the only brand that I know off that has a hybrid model.

We fell in love with a beautyrest hybrid (why not–we have a hybrid car and water heater); however, a friend reminded me about carcinogenic petro chemicals used in foam, and how the manufacturers frequently distort the truth about the quantities, percentages, gassing off time (if they ever do) etc.
Can you give me the straight skinny on the foam content, etc.?

    Viljoen June 6, 2016

    Hi Linda.

That is the first time I have ever heard something like that. I am not 100% sure but what I can tell you is that almost everything nowadays gives us cancer. Stuff such as the chemicals that we take in through food, chemicals in the air and a lot of things that I cannot even think off.

It is good to be health conscious, but I would not worry too much about it. If it really worries, you then why not put a pot plant in your room to help with the cleaning process of the air?

Will you please do a research on the simmons beautyrest Okauchee Lake Hybrid Plush? I know there are many but would like to know about this one.

The hybrid concept was a pleasant surprise. We purchased the Simmons Black Hybrid Gladney today. It hasn’t been delivered yet though. How does this particular mattress stack up in comfort and support against the other Simmons hybrids?

Lea April 6, 2015

Hi, is the Valencia the same as the Alcove (Beautyrest Black Hybrid) sold at matress firm? If not, then what do you know about that hybrid mattress?
Thanks in advance,

We purchased the a Simmons Recharge World Class Luxury Firm with a Pillow Top about a year ago. We noticed large body indents and a complete lack of support around 8 months of owning it. We went through the warranty process and Simmons is going to replace the mattress. We now have the opportunity to “upgrade” and pay the price differential. I am researching the Simmons BR Rechard Hybrid Reagan Luxury Firm. Thank you for all the information you provide above. It was very helpful. Do the hybrid beds have the issues with the body indentations and sagging?

Reply
    Viljoen August 2, 2016

    Hi Jordan

I do not think so because the Hybrid models have innerspring and memory foam. I do not think that there is a mattress in the world that will keep their shape and texture forever.

    Hi Patti

It is a bit hard to get information on the Jeffrey’s Bay, but from what I can tell it look like it has 3 layers

    1. Aircool memory foam
    2. Micro gel touch
    3. Dynamic Response Memory foam

Thank you for the information about the different types of matrices and which one is best for each type of sleeper. I have a memory foam mattress topper and it is starting to show indentations of where I sleep on the bed. How long should a mattress last? And what is the life span of the matrices that you have reviewed? Purchasing a mattress is difficult because they are so expensive that I want to make sure that I will pick one that is comfortable and one that is going to last for a long time. Is 10 years to long to expect for a mattress to last? Thanks Robin

    Hi Robin.

I do not know what the exact lifespan of the Simmons mattress are, but I know that you get a 25 year warranty against any defects. I think if you have a memory foam mattress it can easily last for 10 years. Thanks for the reply.

HI Viljoen
Great article and I have the Premium level mattress – Aircool memory Foam mattress (not this brand though) and love it.
It is too soft for my husband who likes a very very firm mattress. So we have split mattresses in our Queen bed and this has done the trick.
I sleep so much better and for longer with this mattress
Cheers

    Hi Kerrie

You were very smart with the idea of splitting the mattress. Maybe Simmons must start to look into split type mattresses for couples with mixed preferences.

Hi Viljoen, great in depth review. Just wondering if the hybrid recharge is available in the UK?

Thanks in advance

Reply
    Viljoen November 23, 2014

    Hi Lee.

Thanks for the compliment. Took me a while to write this review. The hybrid is certainly available in any country. The only problem is that US- mattress only supplies mattresses to the US and Canada. I think Amazon is more global, but the problem with Amazon is that it is very limited.

Great reviews, although I do not see mention of the Beautyrest Recharge Hybrid ETTA Plush model. Why was this one skipped? The Etta is offered by my local mattress retailers and feels slightly plush, but is a hybrid model with the coils. I’d like to see a review or more information on that from somewhere….

        Hi Doppelganger.

Thanks for your recommendation. I think I will add the ETTA type plush to my next post. I am not well informed about the ETTA, but I will do some research on it.
